To readers of and contributors to the Caribbean Journal of Science: I have recently taken over editorship of the Caribbean Journal as of January 2007, becoming the third editor in three years. This situation has had predictable effects on timely review and publishing of submitted articles. Nevertheless I, along with two associate editors, are actively pursuing bringing the backlog to order and I request your patience while this process continues. Presently we are receiving approximately 130 submissions per year. This represents a number of journal pages which we do not have the resources to fill. As such, the editorial staff is strictly adhering to a policy of publishing manuscripts which we feel are most likely to be of interest to the broad community of scientists interested in the Caribbean region. We have just been successful in adding a third issue per year, which will help alleviate the backlog of manuscripts.
